Do you design for mobile and want to contribute to a book?

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Theresa Neil, who recently co-wrote Designing Web Interfaces with Bill Scott, is taking on another O’Reilly book on the topic of designing for mobile. She’s looking to interview a few designers who have experience in this area and asked me to post this up here. So if you want to share your work experience on one of the following platforms such as: iPhone, Enjoy, Palm Pre, Android, or others, please get in touch with me (see email on right navigation) or reach out to her directly. Theresa wants to do a walkthrough like interview and get at the best practises around each platform. Now how cool would it be to end up in a book? :)

Call for Samples – Pencils, Pens & Markers Photos

Wednesday, September 2nd, 2009

Here is a quick idea to try to squeeze out some samples from all of you out there. I just ran into Jason’s latest flickr photo about the markers he uses for drawing UI’s and I thought it would be cool if I’d ask all the WM readers to do the same. Once I receive some examples, I’ll post them up here in a short article. So:

  1. Line up your markers, pencils, etc. (showing what they can do on paper)
  2. Grab a photo of them
  3. Describe what they are and what you use each one for
  4. Submit by email (listed on the right).

Just thought it might be interesting …

FlairBuilder Giveaway – Winner

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Ta da. Three people entered last week’s contest for a chance to win a copy of FlairBuilder. The winner is Keith. I determined the winner by asking participants for a random number between 1 and 10, ordering their first names alphabetically, and counting through the names with the sum of the numbers provided. Congratulations! Here are the people who participated along with the provided numbers.

  • Fabian – 7
  • Keith – 6 – Winner
  • Luis – 7

I plan on posting, Keith’s sample tomorrow, as well as hope to do another one of these sometime in the future. New ideas are more than welcome!

Call for Samples + FlairBuilder Giveaway

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Craving some new UI design techniques, I decided to do a little call for participation that will end with a software giveaway. In return for some new sample submissions (from you), we’re giving away one full license of FlairBuilder – a cross platform wireframing tool. The winner will be determined randomly. Want to join in? If interested, here is what you need to do:

  1. Submit your own wireframe, sketch, UI design technique, user flow, persona, time based interactions, or any other UI/UX design documentation or technique, by email to me.
  2. In the same email, provide a number between 1 and 10 (which will be used to determine a random winner). :)

The draw will take place on July 20, and your sample has to cover a technique or approach previously not seen on Wireframes Magazine. By submitting, you should also be comfortable with me posting your work or approach online. Please send em in …

For Hire: User Interface Design & Evaluation Services

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Quick announcement. Since my graduation date is closing in this summer, I thought to make use of Wireframes Magazine to shamelessly promote myself as a user interface designer for hire. Very soon I will be looking out for freelance opportunities as an independent contractor. So please let me know if you think you might be interested in working together. Looking forward. Jakub Linowski.

Seeking Participants for User Testing II (in Toronto)

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

I’m planning to do more testing on fluidIA between May 12-15 and wanted to ask if there were some interested participants in the Toronto area. Last time I asked for this, I received help from four people and it really helped me out. This time around I’m looking for four more pariticipants. Same as last time, the one-on-one usability test will run for around an hour, and I can come over with all my equipment (basically a laptop). Please email me (email is listed in the right hand column) if you’re up for supporting a little open source IA project. :) Thanks. Jakub

Seeking Participants for User Testing

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

I’m planning to do some user testing of fluidia.org this week, and wanted to ask if there were some interested participants in the Toronto area. I promise it will not hurt, it will only take up to one hour, and I can come over with all the equipment. Ideally I would like to run the test this Thursday or Friday. Please email me (email is listed in the right hand column) if you’re up for supporting a little open source IA project. :) Thanks. Jakub

FluidIA Sketches Are Up

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

As the fluidIA side project is rolling forward, I thought to drop a quick announcement here that some interface sketches about how the new prototyping tool could work, have been posted today. I am doing some quick design this week, followed by some development next week. So if you feel like sketching additional or alternative ideas, feel free to send them over to me and I could post them up as well. If sketching is too much, I’m also open to feedback through commenting (on the fluidia.org site) or by email. Cheers. Jakub

A little easier content contributions?

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009

As readers are submitting quite interesting content, I would like to try and see if by setting up a drop.io account it will make it even easier. It looks like easier submissions are a requested feature, but I am not completely sure by how that can be achieved. Drop.io/wireframes will hopefully make it easier to submit larger files. Is more guidance needed in terms of what should be submitted? Are people resistant to submitting source files? If you have any ideas or comments, feel free to let me know. :) Cheers. Jakub

Want to help out with some user research for fluidIA?

Friday, February 13th, 2009

I’m seeking some more inspiration for fluidIA, the open source UI prototyping tool, and I need some volunteers willing to take part in user research. Basically I would like to observe a couple of people while they are designing user interfaces. You have to be in Toronto in March, or in the Netherlands in February. The second option which I am asking for is to video record your best and worst wireframing moments (via Jing).

Here are the details: www.fluidia.org/research

Any willing people, greatly appreciated! :)
